PRIMEX established a non-profit organization – the Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (formerly the PRIMEX Foundation for Alternative Management of the Environment (PRIMEX-FAME) – as a vehicle for a more grassroots-oriented approach to environmental management and conservation.
CESC was born on 25 September 2002 to serve as a development catalyst, field-level development facilitator, or a conduit of donor assistance to community-based organizations (CBOs) or people’s organizations (POs). To date, CESD’s completed projects and exposure have focused mostly on the following:
- policy review and formulation;
- governance and empowerment;
- participatory resource management;
- community development; and
- capacity building of NGOs involved in HIV and AIDS.
CESD goals include the following
- implementation of projects on development, natural resource, and health;
- conduct of advocacy, information/ awareness campaigns for the sustainable use and management of the environment;
- training of target beneficiary groups for furtherance of their objectives;
- fund raising or solicitation to finance its operations or implement specific projects;
- management of its funds and those that are entrusted to its care for proper stewardship and optimum use of its resources; and
- provision of technical advisory assistance to various entities financed through contracts/grants.
