Another partnership on HIV education has been forged, with the RETA 6321 project team recently providing training for aspiring Foreign Service Officers who are currently undergoing their cadetship training at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). The training team was composed of Mr. Joel de Mesa, Ms. Mara Quesada, and Ms. Malu Marin, Component 2 Deputy Team Leader.

The training for a total of 25 DFA foreign service cadets last 30-31 August 2008 at the Astoria Hotel followed a similar activity held earlier for government partners at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) last 19-20 August.

This was part of the Project’s Component 2, Phase 2 activities - training government partners on how to respond to OFWs who may be infected with HIV, or how to respond to them if they are asking for materials on HIV/AIDS.

The core activities for the second phase of Component 2, dealing with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), include the conduct of a training needs assessment for the development of the Capacity Development Plan and the delivery of three training courses for personnel of government agencies concerned in HIV Prevention and Care among OFWs.
