PRIMEX is the Philippine associate of global consulting firm Kellogg Brown and Root Pty Ltd (KBR) in preparing the design of the Philippine Irrigation System Operation Efficiency Improvement Project (TA 7141-PHI) for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

KBR signed the contract with ADB on 10 March 2009, and the consulting team was mobilized last 20 April 2009.

PRIMEX has fielded its Chairman, Dr. Jerome F. Sison, as the international economist of the PPTA Team, and the team of national consultants comprised of a deputy team leader/institutional development specialist, a social development specialist, irrigation engineers, agronomist, environment specialist, monitoring and evaluation specialist, among others.

The investment project that is expected to be designed under the PPTA will aim at reducing poverty by improving agricultural productivity through rehabilitation and improved management of irrigation schemes in selected areas in Antique and Davao del Norte. It will form part of the Philippine government's priority programs under the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan, 2004-2010.

Irrigation modernization is one component of the Philippine Government's Food Self-Sufficiency Plan 2009-2010, which aims to reduce the country's exposure to elevated staple food grain prices experienced in 2008.  (Arvin Yana /PRIMEX)
