The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has engaged PRIMEX health consultant and epidemiologist, Dr. Aguedo Troy Gepte, to serve as Regional Coordinator and Knowledge Management Adviser to support the implementation of the four-year Second Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Regional Communicable Diseases Control (CDC-2) Project.

To be stationed in Vientiane, Lao PDR, Dr. Gepte will work in close coordination with the three project management units (PMUs) in Cambodia, the Lao PDR and Viet Nam, as well as with the ADB Mission Leader based in Hanoi.

From September 2011 to March 2014, Dr. Gepte will provide a leadership role in regional coordination and knowledge management in CDC in the GMS, in close coordination with the ministries of health, project directors, chief technical advisors, and regional partners. He will also function as the secretariat for the regional steering committee, carrying out assignments as agreed by the committee including annual meetings and reports; manage the regional coordination unit and the joint fund; and help organize regional activities including forums, workshops, and studies, among others.

He will also conduct training sessions on regional CDC for ministries of health, national institutions, and others, as appropriate; facilitate project support for timely reporting and control of communicable diseases; help establish focal points for CDC in the Ministries of Health; provide technical advice and supervision for project surveys; and help provide technical advice and roll out WHO regional strategies for CDC, including the Asia-Pacific Strategy for Emerging Diseases (APSED).

As a Knowledge Management (KM)) Advisor, Dr. Gepte will work with stakeholders to explore opportunities for KM in CDC in GMS; regularly liaise with partners for sharing their data, news, and announcements; regularly update and disseminate information on CDC in the region through websites, email, and reports, including events, studies, and information on persons and institutions active in CDC in the region; examine the need and potential for establishing a clearinghouse for KM products, and explore this preferably through liaison with an institution in the region; and assist in the nurturing of communities of practice (COPs) for CDC-specific areas.
