PRIMEX and the Department of Education have organized a Consultative Meeting between the private and the public sectors on expanding educational services in the country last September 8 at the DepEd Central Office.
DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapuz keynoted the day-long activity highlighting the role of the private sector, and acknowledging particularly the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), in advancing basic education in the country.
The Meeting was organized into four major sessions: a) Private-Public Sector Partnership in the Provision of Basic Education Services focusing on the areas of potential partnerships in support of Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA), including education service contracting, b) : Cost-Effective Innovations: Private Sector Solutions to Public Sector Dilemmas which discussed private sector innovations in education that offer important lessons and good practices (e.g. ICT applications, school management and supervision etc) and models for larger scale interventions on the part of the public sector c) Corporate Philanthropy for Education which discussed major trends in corporate giving for education focusing on how corporate philanthropy for education can be better directed in support of BESRA and the Governance of Basic Education and the Role of the Private Sector which discussed the present mechanisms for the governance of basic education and the opportunities for improving these mechanisms with the participation of the private sector.
The first session was facilitated by Jesus Mateo, Director of Educational Development Projects Implementing Task Force while the rest were given by Mario Taguiwalo, Lead Consultant of BESRA.
Other organizations represented at the Meeting were the Philippines Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC)- Energy Development Council, and the La Sallian Schools Supervision Office (LASSO). (ADY)
