PRIMEX concluded its participation in an ADB technical assistance project (TA 7047-INO) designed to assist the Indonesian Government in developing a strategy for the prevention of HIV and AIDS, specifically for the country’s construction services sector.
Two of PRIMEX’s health experts on HIV and AIDS prevention, Drs. Vicente S. Salas and Florante P. Magboo, worked with an Indonesian national team.
The Project, which started in March 2009, providing technical support to Indonesia’s Construction Services and Human Resource Development Board (BPKSDM) in addressing the HIV and AIDS problem, has three components: (i) HIV and AIDS Prevention Strategy in the Construction Sector; (ii) OSH Standards for HIV and AIDS Prevention Training for Construction Service Providers and On-Site Workers on Projects with High HIV Risk; and (iii) Training Certification Standards Development.
Dr. Salas was the Project Team Leader from March-July 2009010 and Dr. Magboo took over from August 2009- March 2010, was responsible for the execution of the first component and subsequently, supported the national team leader for the other two components.
TA 7047-INO is the 5th HIV/AIDS–related Project completed by PRIMEX.
This Project is the third of a series of ADB-supported and PRIMEX-implemented initiatives to prevent the spread of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) in the region. From November 2005 to June 2008, PRIMEX implemented a grant project to support DOH in the surveillance, prevention, and control of EIDs including SARS, avian influenza (H5N1), and dengue. From July 2006 to September 2008, PRIMEX implemented another regional technical assistance (RETA6305) for Strengthening Epidemiological Surveillance and Response (ESR) in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
