PRIMEX won the bid to provide consulting services for the Sustainable Mariculture Investment Program (SMIP) of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), which is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

The PRIMEX consultants will support DBP’s Program Development and Marketing Units (PDMUs) in four major areas, namely: (i) development of technical assessment framework and standards; (ii) development of financing schemes/modalities for financing mariculture projects; (iii) provision of technical advisory support to proposed mariculture projects; and (iv) development of the conceptual financing framework for accessing long-term fund sources.

The PRIMEX team is led by Mr. Wilfredo Yap, Mariculture Specialist/Team Leader; Mr. Pablito Villegas, Rural Credit and Banking Specialist; and Dr. Jerome Sison, Economist/Financial Analyst. PRIMEX Senior Manager for Technical Services, Leo Pura, will serve as Project Coordinator.

The Project aims to complement the Philippine Government’s initiative to effectively manage the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources, protect the marine environment, and ensure sustainable livelihoods for fisherfolk in coastal communities.
