Posted in April 2011 The implementation of a coastal zone management project in Southern Mindanao, which PRIMEX co-managed with NJS Consultants (Japan), CEST Inc. (Philippines) and Tetra Tech (USA) from January 2011 to January 2007, has been rated B or Satisfactory by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Southern Mindanao Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (SMICZMP), a project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) that received loan funding amounting to ¥2,229 million from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), was given an overall evaluation rating of B (Satisfactory). The project got two A ratings (Highly Satisfactory) for its Relevance to the Development Plan of the Philippines and its Effectiveness (Impact), and two B ratings for Efficiency and Sustainability. The project aimed to enhance the strategic integration of management in the coastal and watershed ecosystems to assure the sustainable development of the sustainable development of the Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape and Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape, Balasiao Watershed, and Malalag Bay. Its overall goal was to implement integrated environmental protection and management of critical ecosystems as imperative to sustainable development. (AYana)
