A total of 105 health officers and chief executives of local government units (LGUs) and representatives of line agencies in the Cordillera region became the first batch of trainees on Surveillance, Prevention, and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDs) under the second phase of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) RETA 6108.
The weeklong event, held on 23-27 July 2007 at Hotel Supreme in Baguio City, trained municipal/city health officers (MHOs/CHOs) in the first two days and culminated with a summit of local chief executives (LCEs) on the third day to drum up their support for local preparedness against the EIDs.
The training, which incorporated lectures on dengue prevention and control, on top of other identified EIDs, also briefed representatives from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Office of Civil Defense (OCD), among others, on their roles in inter-agency collaboration to prevent EID outbreaks.
The same training was customized for another set of participants on 26-27 July 2007, composed mainly of representatives of various Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) in the region.
The next batch of training will be held for Regions 4A, 4B, 5, and the National Capital Region (NCR) on 27-31 August 2007 in Taytay. Rizal.
