The National Epidemiology Center
(NEC) with the key support of Pacific Rim Innovation and Management
Exponents, Inc. (PRIMEX) kicked off the New Year with a workshop
on the newly developed Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance
and Response (PIDSR) software held on 28 January to 1 February at
Subic Holiday Villas, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Zambales.
The workshop was held to give
a primer and tutorial to the 32 workshop participants representing
the eight regions of Luzon, on the use and operation of the PIDSR
software developed by NEC. Most of these participants were part
of the pioneering group that develop the PIDSR. Apart from the training
that the participants received, the regional offices also received
a brand new high-end computer set with a licensed operating system
installed, bundled with an inkjet colored printer.
The PIDSR
The participants welcomed the
training with enthusiasm, exclaiming that this is a big step in
improving the production of quality reports and in amplifying the
efficiency of the health sector in dealing with epidemics. Far from
the routinary delivery of training programs, this training was conducted
with hands-on modules that included pretest/posttest diagnostics
and even unfreezing exercises executed with computers. They thanked
profusely PRIMEX and ADB for their continued support for PIDSR.
The training ended with the distribution of the Certificates of
Appearance and Participation, CD installer of PIDSR, and CD references
for the participants. A simple turnover ceremony of computer sets
and printers for each region capped the workshop.
The PIDSR is one of the health
products of the Philippine component of RETA 6305 funded by the
Asian Development Bank (ADB) and implemented by the Department of
Health (DOH) through PRIMEX.
