FLORANTE P. MAGBOO, Senior Vice President
Dr. FLORANTE P. MAGBOO is a senior public health specialist and epidemiologist with over 20 years of experience in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Such assignments required responsibility for project management, policy review and formulation, and field operations, including data collection and data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, managing databases, linking surveillance databases to policy and program development, building capacities, and developing competencies in epidemiology, communication, data analysis, and management.
Dr. Magboo served as Training Officer for the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Office of the Philippine DOH from 1992-1996, and was in charge of recruitment, training, and certification of program trainees or fellows.
Dr. Magboo served as Co-Team Leader/Epidemiological Surveillance Specialist for the ADB Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) for Strengthening Epidemiological Surveillance and Response for Communicable Diseases in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines from 2006-2008. As such, he provided support and technical assistance to health ministries of the three countries in conducting an evaluation and comprehensive assessment of existing ESR systems and in strengthening their disease surveillance and response to emerging infectious diseases. He also provided management oversight to the development of training materials designed to build skills and capacities of field workers in applied epidemiology.
Dr. Magboo was among the first graduates of the Field Epidemiology Training Program of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Philippines. He also completed an International Course in Surveillance and Applied Epidemiology for HIV and AIDS offered by the CDC and Emory University School of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia in 1993. He is highly proficient in the use of various computer programs and has excellent technical writing skills.
